Bay and Bow Windows

Home / Windows in Barrie, Ontario / Bay and Bow Windows

This type of window is characterized by a space that projects outward form a building’s main bay and form a bay inside a room. It can either be polygonal or square in plan. Most bay windows usually protrude from buildings while others are at the same level with the exterior and are usually built to the room’s interior. The most common used angles for construction of these windows include 90, 135 and 150 degrees inside the corners of the bay.

These windows were part of the Gothic revival style and are mostly associated with Victorian architecture. The windows excellently create the illusion of a larger room. They also increase the flow of natural light into a building and also provide outside views.
